FLAVOUR

Gichathaini Factory is nestled in the red volcanic soils of Nyeri County, in Kenya’s former Central Province, about 150 kilometers north of Nairobi. Sitting at an altitude of 1,700 to 1,800 meters above sea level, it benefits from rich organic soil and consistent rainfall of approximately 1,200 to 1,400 mm annually. 

The factory is part of the Gikanda Farmers Cooperative Society, which also includes Ndaroini and Kangocho factories. Around 900 active members deliver their cherries to Gichathaini, contributing to an annual production of about 685 metric tons from roughly 450 hectares of coffee land. The main harvest takes place between October and December, with smaller volumes harvested from April to July. The farmers cultivate a mix of Ruiru 11, SL 28, and SL 34 varieties, all fully washed at the factory.
